I spent longer than I planned in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, over the Christmas period. The weather was the main reason. It was freezing, very windy but, thankfully, no snow! There were too many opportunities for photographs.

This photograph was one of the first photos I took in 2008. It was taken on a bridge near Ballinroad, Co Waterford. You can just about make out the clubhouse of the Dungarvan Gold Club and, in the background, the Comeragh Mountains.

Heron relaxes at the end of the day

I’m not sure if one can skip (or bunk off) work if you’re the boss but that’s what I did today. It was sort of work related in that I drove around looking for new photo locations. Luckily I found Seatown, which a little estuary just north of Malahide.

It’s a very beautiful and restful place. Especially so, considering that the M1 motorway is just behind me. The heron in the photo seemed so serene as he inspected his domain just as the sun was going down.

Seatown is definitely somewhere I’ll return to again but probably on a warmer day!
